Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes are very proud to announce a very special event as the 2nd Annual Hurricanes Pink in the Rink event is set to take place on November 19th and 20th as the Canes play host to Prince Albert and Saskatoon in WHL regular season action. This event will once again serve as an opportunity to raise awareness about breast cancer as well as funds for the Lethbridge chapter of the CIBC Run for The Cure in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. With the help of community-minded businesses as well as the fans, players and staff of the Lethbridge Hurricanes the organization once again hopes to raise funding and awareness for this great cause.
This weekend-long event will kick off on the 19th with the Canes Friday night matchup with the Raiders before ending the following night (November 20th) in the Canes Saturday night match up with the Blades. On both of these nights, everyone in attendance is encouraged to wear pink to support and recognize all those that are fighting the disease, those taken from us, as well as those amazing individuals who are survivors and family members of survivors.
Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women and each of us knows of someone who has been touched by this disease. Men are not exempt from this disease as 1 in 9 will also be touched in their lifetimes. The Lethbridge Hurricanes are very well aware of this and that is why this makes such an exciting partnership. We are both dedicated to supporting breast cancer research and community education and awareness programs. 95% of the funds raised in our region will stay in our region. In the year 2009/2010 in Alberta 7 research grants were given out and 9 community grants funded by our foundation.
“The Lethbridge Committee for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is extremely excited about partnering with the Lethbridge Hurricanes for “PINK IN THE RINK”. This should be a fun two nights for both young and old.” said run organizer Ginny Goulet “We are all linked together by a common purpose and vision, a Future without Breast Cancer. Join in the fun on November 19-20 at the Enmax Centre, wear PINK and show your support for the Lethbridge Hurricanes as they help us – the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure – bring awareness to our community.”
The Hurricanes themselves will be wearing specially designed pink jerseys that will be auctioned off in a silent auction format, ending at the conclusion of the second game. Proceeds from the jerseys will support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Along with the proceeds from the jersey auction, funds will also be raised through the intermission promotions and donations. For more information on how you, your company or your organization can get involved contact the Hurricanes office at 403 328-1986
The world’s greatest mascot Twister will also be making an appearance this Sunday at the CIBC Run for the Cure where he will be helping out the many volunteers in this great event. The Lethbridge CIBC Run for the cure is set for the morning of October 3rd and starts at the Lethbridge Exhibition – Main Pavilion.
