Hurricanes comeback falls short in Moose Jaw

Moose Jaw, SK – Riding the wave of wins over Moose Jaw and Swift Current, the Hurricanes were back in action against the Warriors again tonight and they went back to All-Star goalie Ty Rimmer in between the pipes. Rimmer with a 37-save performance over the Broncos in a 4-0 shutout and tonight he made his 14th straight start.

The Hurricanes got off to a quick start on the road for second night in a row when Sam McKechnie (Brady Ramsay, Graham Hood) with some outstanding hand-eye coordination, batted the puck out of mid-air and by Moose Jaw goalie Justin Paulic to give the Canes a 1-0 lead.  The Canes had a few good chances to go up by a pair, but weren't able to cash in again in that period. Ty Rimmer held the Warriors off the scoresheet as the Canes held the edge in shots 12-8 with the 1-0 lead.

In the second, the Warriors would turn the game in their favor with 3 goals in an 8 minute span. Justin Kirsch tied the game 1-1 when he beat Ty Rimmer to end Rimmer's shutout streak which lasted just over 4 periods.  Six minutes later, the Warriors would take their first lead of the night when Tanner Eberle undressed the Hurricanes defence, walked in and snapped a bullet over Rimmer to make it 2-1 Warriors. Less than 2 minutes later, Morgan Rielly lifted a backhander into the top of net to give his team a 3-1 lead.  The Hurricanes were unable to generate much offence and it remained a 3-1 Warriors lead after 40 minutes.

In the third, the Hurricanes would press to get back in the hockey game and with 3 minutes to go Jay Merkley (Macoy Erkamps) would burst out on a breakaway and score his 4th of the season to make it a one goal game.  That goal extended Merkley's point streak to 6 straight games, now with 4 goals and 3 assists in that stretch.  Lethbridge would pull Rimmer for the extra attacker but their comeback fell short as 3-2 stood as the final. Final shots on were 35-32 for Moose Jaw. In the area of special teams, Lethbridge was 0/2 on the PP and Moose Jaw was 0/3.
