Mike Craig joins Hurricanes coaching staffAug 14, 2013 - 04:50 MDT
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes announced Wednesday the hiring of former NHL’er Mike Craig as the teams Assistant Coach. Craig will join Head Coach Drake Berehowsky and Assistant Brad Lukowich behind the bench heading into the 2013-2014 WHL season.
Craig brings more than 20 years of experience as a hockey player (NHL, AHL, IHL, Swiss A, Ebel and Italy) to the organization. Through his experience playing with different coaches, Craig has developed his own style and philosophies to help guide the team. He has his NHLCA USA Hockey Level 3 Coaching Certificate and says through his career he has learned that the best decisions made are ultimately to improve the team or give them the best chance at winning.
Throughout his career, the right winger played and won at the highest level – World Juniors (Team Canada 1990, 1991), Memorial Cup (Oshawa Generals, OHL, 1990), Stanley Cup Finalists (Minnesota North Stars 1990-91), Spengler Cup (Team Canada 2002-03, 2003-04), Austrian Champions (2005, 2009.) In 423 career NHL games (with 4 NHL teams), Craig registered 168 points (71G, 97A) he also played in 16 NHL playoff games. Lethbridge Hurricanes General Manager, Brad Robson says “his experience at all levels, and winning at the highest levels is a huge asset to the team. He’ll compliment both Drake and Brad and he’ll be able to assist our skilled forwards in our new philosophy which is bringing the effort and working hard each practice and every game.”
