HURRICANES BATTLE HITMEN – The Lethbridge Hurricanes take on the Calgary Hitmen in Taber, AB, as the 2012 WHL Exhibition schedule continues on Wednesday.
The Hurricanes make their pre-season debut on Wednesday night in Taber. The ‘Canes finished the 2011-12 regular season with a 29-42-0-1 record, putting them in 11th place in the Eastern Conference and leaving them out of the playoff picture for a third straight season.
The Hitmen picked up two wins at the Edmonton pre-season tournament on the long weekend, defeating the Medicine Hat Tigers 3-1 on Saturday before downing the Swift Current Broncos 5-1 on Sunday. Former Everett Silvertip Carson Samoridny led the Hitmen attack with two goals and three points in two weekend contests.
Elsewhere on Wednesday, the Kamloops Blazers (2-0-0-0) welcome the Vancouver Giants (1-1-0-0) at Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops, B.C.
The Blazers earned a pair of victories over the Victoria Royals in a pre-season home-and-home set between the teams last week. Veteran JC Lipon tallied three goals and five points over the two games versus the Royals.
The Giants split a pair of games versus the Kelowna Rockets on the weekend, losing 4-3 at home on Friday before posting a 3-2 shootout victory on Saturday in Kelowna. Cain Franson scored a pair of goals over the two games versus Kelowna.
The 2012-13 WHL Regular Season begins on Thursday, September 20th, with the defending WHL Champion Edmonton Oil Kings hosting the Kootenay Ice.
